On Sunday, June 11th, 2017 over 85 people gathered for the GEAE’s 7th Annual Afternoon for Equality. Attendees enjoyed local wine, music, and food from the regions best. In attendance this year were four special guests: GEAE was honored to be able to present scholarships to area high school graduates whose work in LGBT activism inspired their peers. Attendees were able to learn some about some of the work they did within their school and what they hoped to continue to pursue throughout their educational process. GEAE wishes them all the luck and continues to offer support for their endeavors. In addition to their scholarship, each awardee received a personalized letter of commendation from U.S. Senator Bob Casey.
An award was also given to Dale Allgeier for his continued to commitment to GEAE and support for our new location. Dale sits on GEAE’s advisory council, so he was not eligible for the Continuing Progress Award, nevertheless, GEAE’s board of Director’s felt it was important to recognize his unwavering support.
Attendees also celebrated the work of GEAE over the past year, and an announcement was made regarding the up-coming opening of GEAE’s Regional Gay-Straight Alliance for area school students, that will be housed in our location on West 10th Street. GEAE’s events coming up in the next few months were also announced.
We look forward to continuing to advance our mission to create a safe and welcoming community for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity through quality educational programs, service opportunities, and social events with the funds generated from this event.
